CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 3, 2008 — The American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) standardized Viance’s Ecolife™ Stabilized Weather-Resistant Wood, effective immediately. The new standard will be printed in the 2009 AWPA Book of Standards, to be published in May 2009. The AWPA is the principal consensus-based standards writing organization for the wood treating industry in the United States.
“We are extremely pleased to offer our customers the affirmation that even our newest technology has been thoroughly vetted through AWPA Standards and has been proven to perform exceptionally well under the most rigorous peer review and real world field testing,” said Chris Shadday, vice president of commercial development for Viance. “Not all newer wood treatment technologies are included in AWPA Standards, nor are they in the process of becoming included. This standardization shows that industry experts agree that Ecolife treated wood is a preferable new technology that architects, home inspectors, builders and homeowners alike can trust. We chose to take sthe new advanced technology in Ecolife before the committee and seek standardization because our research and results were sound.”
Extensive, valid laboratory and field or service data must be provided and reviewed by independent wood scientists and leaders in the wood treatment industry for a product to be included in the AWPA Standards. According to the AWPA, no product is considered in compliance with AWPA Standards until AWPA’s Technical Committees have reviewed and voted on the inclusion of technology and the AWPA Executive Committee has conducted a procedural review and final action pursuant to the AWPA TCR.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also approved Ecolife Stabilized Weather-Resistant Wood in January. For more information about AWPA-Standardized Ecolife Stabilized Weather Resistant Wood, visit www.treatedwood.com or call 1-800-421-8661.
