OAK BROOK, IL – At a Gala event held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Chicago, the Greater Illinois Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation honored Elkay Manufacturing with the second annual Breath of Life Award in recognition of the many ways the company and its employees have enriched the community and supported the Foundation. The award was created by the CF Foundation, a non-profit, donor-supported organization, to acknowledge both individuals and companies for their acts of generosity, inspirational leadership and positive contributions to the community, as these reflect a “breath of life” to be celebrated and emulated. Elkay proudly supports the CF Foundation and its ongoing efforts to find a cure and improve the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis.
In conjunction with the CF Foundation, Elkay developed a variety of employee and business partner programs to help raise funds for the organization throughout the course of this year, which resulted in a more than $350,000 donation for the Foundation. Nearly 10 years ago, Elkay began its partnership with the CF Foundation by creating an employee giving campaign, which enables Elkay team members to donate a portion of their earnings toward the Foundation. One program implemented in August of this year was an Elkay employee healthy weight-loss challenge, during which the company's CEO and President Tim Jahnke donated $1 to the CF Foundation for every inch lost around the waist line of Elkay employees throughout the month. Each of the four-person teams at Elkay who participated in the challenge donated $10 to the CF Foundation for the chance to compete and were supplied with information on stress, proper sleep, nutrition and exercise by a local Elkay wellness team. In addition, Elkay participated in a variety of other fundraising activities and donated a "dream kitchen" prize package, including cabinets and plumbing fixtures, for the event's live auction.
"Elkay is truly honored to be the recipient of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Breath of Life Award. We are incredibly proud of both our employees and business partners who contributed their time, efforts and resources to help us raise funds to support such a worthy, efficient and effective organization," notes Jahnke.
The mission of the CF Foundation is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide).
The Foundation funds and accredits more than 115 care centers, 95 adult care programs, 50 affiliate programs and has 80 chapters and branches nationwide, making it the leading cystic fibrosis organization in the nation. Thanks to the dedication and backing of its supporters, the CF Foundation is making a difference; today, the advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with the disease.
