JELD-WEN WINDOWS AND DOORS EARNS SFI® PRESIDENT'S AWARD
Klamath Falls, Ore. – JELD-WEN® Windows and Doors has been recognized for its outstanding efforts in supporting the green building market by promoting its Sustainable Forestry Initiative® Inc. (SFI) certification.
JELD-WEN Windows and Doors, which received an SFI President's Award today, provides high-quality SFI-certified products and makes sure all customers, including major builders, understand the importance of SFI certification. The company developed a rack card illustrating its products and the benefits of SFI certification, and promotes the value of the independent SFI program through advertisements and on-product labeling, and at key green building trade shows. JELD-WEN Windows and Doors also used SFI-certified materials to create a window in the shape of the SFI on-product label.
"Wood is a natural choice for any green building project, as long as the fiber is harvested legally and comes from well-managed forests," SFI Inc. President and CEO Kathy Abusow said. "JELD-WEN Windows and Doors delivers this assurance by making sure its products carry the SFI label – which in turn tells consumers they are making an environmentally sound purchasing decision."
JELD-WEN Windows and Doors, a leading manufacturer of reliable windows and doors, has multi-site SFI chain-of-custody certification, and offers SFI-certified wood windows and patio doors as part of its Custom Wood window line. The company has been an ENERGY STAR Partner since 1998 and is also a Cornerstone Partner of the American Institute of Architects, providing tools and information to support architects. JELD-WEN Windows and Doors is represented on the board of the Green Building Initiative, which oversees Green Globes – one of the many green building rating systems that recognize SFI certification.
"Our company's goal is to be the industry leader in environmentally responsible practices and products," said Brian Hedlund, product marketing manager for JELD-WEN Windows and Doors. "SFI chain-of-custody certification is a great way to meet that goal. We are also making sure our processes are designed to minimize waste, maximize efficient utilization of materials and conserve resources, and that our products are long-lasting with excellent performance."
JELD-WEN Windows and Doors was one of five companies honored with an SFI President's award at the SFI Inc. annual conference in Minneapolis. Harden Furniture Inc., National Envelope, Sierra Pacific Industries and Smead Manufacturing Company were also recognized for their work in supporting SFI Inc. and forest certification.
"The strength of the SFI program is our comprehensive forest, chain-of-custody and fiber sourcing certification, and support from companies like JELD-WEN Windows and Doors that recognize the value of third-party certification to meet their environmental, social and customer service goals," Abusow said.
