CertainTeed featured on PCBC Green Home Tour

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. – One of the homes selected for this year’s Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) Bay Area Housing “The Green Machine” bus tour features CertainTeed Corporation’s Landmark(TM) Plus premium designer roofing shingles and WeatherBoards(TM) FiberCement Siding. Built by Levitch Associates, Inc., and organized by Leslie Tippell of L.T. Designs, an architectural Color Design Studio, the home is on track to earn a GreenPoint Rating by Build It Green.

The tour features homes that utilize a variety of green elements, as well as technological advancements, which builders can use to differentiate themselves from competitors in the marketplace. Based in Berkeley, Calif., Build It Green will rate the homes through its GreenPoint Rated program to show visitors the green attributes associated with each project. The homes are expected to score approximately 190 points, significantly exceeding the 50-point minimum required to earn a GreenPoint rating. Build It Green is a non-profit membership organization that promotes healthy, energy- and resource-efficient buildings in California.

The 1,800 square-foot home, part of the Seventh Haven Homes community, is located at 1411 Seventh St., in Berkeley. “The Green Machine” bus tour runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, June 24, and tickets are $115.

"Levitch Associates, Inc., is committed to sustainable building practices, which is why we use CertainTeed’s WeatherBoards FiberCement Siding and Landmark Plus roofing shingles," says Maurice Levitch, President of Levitch Associates, Inc. “Not only does CertainTeed manufacture reputable products, but the customer service the company provides is impeccable. We were impressed to find a company that produces environmentally friendly products and backs it up with great service.”

WeatherBoards FiberCement features the most authentic wood grain in the industry and is manufactured using a combination of recycled fly ash, Portland cement, wood fiber and specialty additives. The enhanced formula, which is comprised of 30 percent post-industrial recycled material, creates an environmentally friendly, lighter-weight and lower-density product. It is impervious to wood-boring insects, resists damaging effects of salt spray and is available with a 50-year limited transferable warranty.

Manufactured with pre- and post-consumer recycled content, Landmark Plus designer asphalt shingles provide the look of traditional wood shakes with the enhanced durability and more affordable price of laminated asphalt composition shingles. Landmark Plus features a 40-year limited transferable warranty and provides coverage in the event of manufacturing defects.

Both WeatherBoards and Landmark help building professionals qualify toward credits for The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Green Building Program.

“WeatherBoards and Landmark Plus are perfect choices for the Seventh Haven Homes,” says Peter Dachowski, President and CEO of CertainTeed Corporation. “CertainTeed is honored to be a part of such a prestigious green building program and housing tour.”
