Eliot Sefrin, the editor and longtime publisher of Kitchen & Bath Design News, was named Publisher Emeritus, a position that will see him retain important ties to the KBDN brand, but relinquish his day-to-day responsibilities as publisher.
Announcement of the role change, made this month by KBDN’s parent company, Cygnus Business Media, reflects a “mutual decision that both Eliot and Cygnus’ management believe will serve everyone’s best interests, as well as that of KBDN, through the balance of 2012 and hopefully beyond.”
“The Publisher Emeritus is an important position aimed at ensuring a seamless link between KBDN and Eliot as he transitions into an eventual semi-retirement after nearly 30 years of service,” says Kris Flitcroft, executive vice president of Cygnus’ Residential Construction Group, which includes KBDN’s sister magazines Qualified Remodeler and Residential Design + & Build.
“Although Eliot has relinquished the day-to-day responsibilities of running KBDN, he will remain an important part of the brand, and will work with Cygnus management and affinity group members to ensure the continued public connection, and industry trust, that supports KBDN and the Cygnus Residential Construction Group,” Flitcroft says.
Among Sefrin’s responsibilities will be to provide the KBDN brand and Residential Construction Group leadership through advice, guidance and opinion on the industry. He also will help to preserve relationships with key clients and prospects through meetings, factory visits, telephone contacts, and at major industry events, including trade shows, conventions and association meetings.
Sefrin will also continue to offer insights, forecasts and advice to major advertisers, reader groups and trade associations seeking to understand the market and KBDN’s target audience, and he will continue to serve as liaison with key trade associations, including the National Kitchen & Bath Association, Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association, International Surface Fabricators Association, Decorative Plumbing and Hardware Association, SEN Design Group, and Bath and Kitchen Buying Group. In addition, he will serve as mentor/coach to the KBDN editorial team, and continue to oversee KBDN’s seminar programs and other educational events.
"In the B-to-B industry, there are some who stand out as giants in their profession based on their talent, commitment and influence," says CEO John French. "I am one of a long list of people who feel fortunate to have worked alongside Eliot. Not only has he created a standard of quality for the kitchen and bath industry in b2b, his influence on the marketplace is undeniable."
“I look forward to this new role, and to assisting in any way possible to ensure that KBDN retains the editorial excellence, circulation outreach, staff continuity and other qualities that have made it the industry’s longtime leading resource for key specifiers and product marketers,” Sefrin says.
Janice Costa will continue in her current role as editor of KBDN. John Huff will assume the operations responsibilities as group publisher.
Sefrin is the editor of KBDN, which was launched in 1983 and has helped raise the awareness, professionalism and profitability of its 40,000+ monthly readers. He was given the dual title of editor and publisher in 1994, and formerly served as a group publisher for Cygnus, with oversight responsibilities for Qualified Remodeler, Residential Design + Build and Surface Fabrication. A graduate of The City College of New York, Sefrin worked on daily and weekly newspapers as a reporter, columnist and editor prior to his involvement with KBDN. He was inducted into the NKBA's Hall of Fame in 2008 for his exceptional contributions to the kitchen and bath industry.
