Morning Session - DESIGN
This session will explore integrated project delivery – what is it, how to apply it, and why it works for everyone. Subtopics will include: BIM and why it works for custom homes; client management in the design process; how technology is used in sales, design, management; why working with a builder important and profitable; case studies/examples of how design/build solves problems; design trends and best practices.
Presenter: James Walbridge
James Walbridge, AIA, is president of Tekton Architecture & Artisan Builders Corporation in San Francisco, which practices architect-led design/build and integrated project delivery of custom homes and other buildings. Tekton handles everything from concept to design to planning to coordination to construction to completion. Walbridge began his career as a draftsman in 1981 while in high school. Subsequent experience in both architectural and engineering firms landed an apprenticeship with an architect-led design/build firm in 1984. He studied architecture at the University of Florida earning a Bachelor’s degree in Design in 1988. Arriving to California in 1990, he continued his mentorship in a Bay Area architect-led design/build firm while obtaining his General Contractor’s License in 1991. James started Tekton Architecture in 1995 after becoming a Registered Architect and formed Artisan Builders Corporation with Andrew Sinor in 1996. His diverse design and construction expertise has lead to leadership positions in the American Institute of Architects on the local, state and national levels. James has lectured on the topics of Architect as Master Builder, Architect-Led Design/Build and BIM (Building Information Modeling) on local, state and national levels including at the American Institute of Architects National Conventions in 2007 and 2011.
Afternoon Session - BUILD
The building session will explore: professional service agreements – what they are and how to get them signed; avoiding profit loss from change orders; why working with an architect/designer can be profitable; client management in the construction process; case studies/examples of how design/build solves problems; and best practices.
